Amelia Espey
Short bio
Amelia joined the Chair of Bioeconomy team at the University of Hohenheim as a junior researcher in August 2021. Originally hailing from Canada, she first moved to Europe for her Masters in Agriculture, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis and studied at the University of Bonn and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Her master thesis drew on rational choice theory to model the impact of exogenous variables (i.e., food price, wage rate, and non-wage income) on UK consumer food waste demand. Her current research focuses on modeling sustainable food consumption; she explores adapting computable general equilibrium (CGE) models to capture consumer diet shifts from conventional meat towards other protein alternatives. Outside work, you can find Amelia growing vegetables in community gardens or keeping active outdoors running and biking.
